How much ribbon do I need to order?

A lot of people ask us how much ribbon they should buy!

This post is only pertains to our frayed edge silk ribbon.

Each spool includes a length of 5.47 yards, or 196 inches. The amount needed per invitation can vary based on factors such as the size of the invitation, type of finish, and number of wraps. To accurately gauge the amount needed, we suggest using a string to mimic the desired wrapping style on your invitation.

A common invitation size is 5x7". If you want to wrap it once around the narrowest part (5 inches), you will need:

  • 23 inches of ribbon if you want a bow finish
  • 15 inches of ribbon if you want a knot finish

So each spool has 196 inches, so we can now calculate the amount of invitations you can get with each spool.

  • Bow: 196 ÷ 23 = 8 invitations, with 12 inches leftover on each spool
  • Knot: 196 ÷ 15 = 13 invitations, with 1 inch leftover on each spool
    • (with this option, you will only have 1" leftover on the spool, which can be a little tight, you may want to consider adding an extra spool just in case)

So let's say you need to wrap 200 invitations:

  • 200 invitations ÷ 8 invitations per spool = 25 spools
  • 200 invitations ÷ 13 invitations per spool = 16 spools

I hope this information helps you, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! :)
